Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport has many airlines using the airport. Among them are Continental Express, AirTran Airways, Delta Airlines, United Express, and US Airways Express. Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport is located three miles northeast of the city of Pensacola, Florida. Pensacola is located in a Florida county called Escambia County. The airport covers 1,211 acres and has two runways. Both runways were built in the 1960s. Pensacola Gulf Regional Airport has one terminal, comprised of twelve gates. The airport is directed by Melinda C. Crawford, and assistant directed by Daniel Flynn. The airport operations are open every day, for twenty-four hours a day. While waiting for a flight, a passenger can enjoy free wireless internet at the airport, buy a souvenir at The Parodies Shop, or order a meal at Verona’s restaurant located inside the terminal. at Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport flies to a limited number of destinations, including Atlanta, Orlando, Charlotte, and Memphis. Certain airlines fly to these locations and offer non-stop flight options. City ordinances allow for flat taxi rates to and from the airport, offering ground transportation to airport clients. Although this airport is city-sanctioned, it has experienced several incidents in safety and flight experiences. In 1987 an Eastern Airlines plan burst a fuselage at Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport. On July six of 1996, an airplane experienced a faulty take off procedure and engine failure. Due to this accident, one of one hundred and forty eight passengers was injured, and two were killed.
