A major airport located in central Florida is located in Orlando and is called Orlando International Airport (MCO). The airport is located on the grounds of the former McCoy Air Force Base and Orlando received the deed in 1975. It received the name Orlando International Airport in 1976 when it received the designation of being an international airport. The airport is the closest airport to Walt Disney World and all of its attractions. Next to Miami’s airport, Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida. Most major domestic airlines including, American Airlines, Delta and Southwest Airlines service Orlando International Airport. Some international carriers including Air Canada, Lufthansa, British Airways, and Aer Lingus also service the airport. The airport has two international arrival concourses to service international visitors. The airport is managed by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. They have to manage a $344 million dollar annual budget. Orlando International Airport has four parallel runways and covers approximately twenty-three square miles. Two of the runways are 12,000 feet long, one is 10,000 feet and the fourth is 9,000 feet. The airport has about 9300 on terminal parking spaces as well as 11,300 economy satellite parking spaces. There is also a free cell phone pick up lot. All major rental car companies service the airport and there is no need to use a shuttle to pick up the rental cars for most of the companies. The airport has about one hundred stores and eating-places. A full service bank, currency exchange and post office are also located at the airport.
