About Arcata Airport
Arcata Airport is nested in the hills of northern California, with an ocean view and the redwood forests for a backyard. Eureka, California is a 20 minute drive south, on the other side of Arcata Bay. It is a five hour drive to San Francisco and the Bay area. Redding is three hours inland. Temperature rarely drop below 40 degrees or rise above 65 degrees. The mild coastal climate bathes the area in cool rain in the winter, and brings a mild spring and summer. These coastal conditions have earned the Arcata Airport the distinction of being the foggiest airport in the United States. This made it an ideal site for the first blind airplane landing in the world in 1947. The Arcata Airport is the largest airport between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California. The two asphalt runways (6000 and 4500 feet long) are capable of handling short and medium range jets. It is served by United Airlines and Horizon Air. United offers flights between Arcata and Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, Crescent City and Sacramento, California. Horizon now offers daily round trip flights to Los Angeles International Airport. Over two hundred thousand passengers were served in the year 2009. Avis, Alamo and Hertz rental car agencies are located near the airport for convenience. The Holiday Inn Express is nearby as well. The local transit system, Redwood Transit Service, serves the Arcata Airport six days a week, with stops as far away as Willow Creek and Eureka. Regional passes are available and can be bought online.
